Inspectors and journalists assaulted at Bucharest Obor market

A number of consumer protection consumers and journalists accompanying them were physically and verbally assaulted at the Obor market in Bucharest during an inspection yesterday morning.

Agerpres says a shop assistant hit a TV reporter and obstructed the recording.

Then she started to push and verbally assault the inspectors and the journalists with the support of the shop owner who wanted the press out of there.

District 2 Mayor Neculai Ontanu denounced the violent conduct of the merchants saying he suspected their businesses hide some irregularities which the press could uncover.

The mayor also criticized the B&C International Security company whose employees had an unprofessional conduct towards the press accompanying the consumer protection inspectors. The District 2 local authorities applied RON 3,000 fines to the violent merchants.
