Mitrea’s trial postponed for a month

The trial of Miron Mitrea, charged of undeserved benefits of his mother’s residence in the Voluntari locality, Ilfov County was postponed on Thursday for May 19 due to procedural errors in the citation of Nicolae Popescu, former Head Architect of the Voluntari Mayoralty.

Senator Miron Mitrea was sued by Anti-Corruption prosecutors on March 5.

Beside Miron Mitrea, the prosecutors also sued the former Deputy Head Inspector of the State Inspectorate in Constructions (ISC), Irina Paula Jianu and the former Head Architect of the Voluntari Mayoralty, Nicolae Popescu.

Former Minister of Public Works, Transportation and Residence during 2000–2004, presently Senator, Miron Mitrea is charged with bribe taking, instigation to forgery of official documents and use of forgery.
Geoana responds to Basescu

The war of statements between Traian Basescu and PSD leader Mircea Geoana continues. After the president’s statement that Geoana cannot go home to his mother-in-law’s if he is unable to tell her he had said something bad about the president of the country, the Social-Democrat has replied that he was inviting Basescu to his mother-in-law’s house because she could bake extraordinary Macedonian pies. ‘Like that, he will have a chance to meet my mother-in-law and realize that things are in a certain way in a serious family and that things may no be that smooth in another family,’ said the PSD leader, quoted by Mediafax, a hit at the family of the president and the scandal in which it had been involved lately. Mircea Geoana’s mother-in-law Margareta Costea, in turn, told ‘Gandul‘daily that Traian Basescu would come to like her if he tasted some of her pies.

PD–L to launch candidates for EP elections on Europe Day

PD–L will launch its candidates for the EP elections on May 9 – Europe Day – during an event held at the Bucharest Palace Hall. Antonio Lopez, the General Secretary of the European People’s Party will be a special guest of the event, according to sources within the party, as quoted by Mediafax.
The first five candidates on the PD–L list are Theodor Stolojan, Monica Macovei, Cristian Preda, Traian Ungureanu and Marian Jean Marinescu.

Orange launches service enabling safe Internet access through SIM card

Orange Romania launched a service which enables safe Internet access through the SIM card and it also enables including filters for the access of children who use the phone to web sites having adult content, according to a press release. Based on the data supplied by the National Regulating Authority for Communications, at the end of 2008, there were 28.6 million clients in Romania, using Orange mobile phone services.

Orange has more than ten million clients locally. The company has also developed a network of stores which has 102 branches throughout the country.

New top mobile models in Vodafone Romania portfolio

Vodafone Romania announces the enlargement of the mobile phone models by new high performing models, meeting all the communication needs of the users, in addition to the voice services: fast and easy Internet and data service access, top notch multimedia functions, access to business applications. Based on a press release, Vodafone offer of mobile phones will include, in the next few days, the three new top models: Nokia E75, LG KM 900 Arena and Samsung S8300 Ultra Touch.

The tire market – expected drop by 12 pc in 2009

Goodyear Dunlop Tires Romania estimates a decline by 10-12 per cent in the market for automotive tires for this year, down to little over 2.1 million units, the company targeting, within this context, market share maintenance.

“The decline of the market is currently by 15 per cent, and the year is expected to end with a total decline by 10-12 per cent,” according to those declared for Mediafax by Ovidiu Balan, general manager Goodyear Dunlop Tires Romania, who is responsible for the Bulgarian market also. According to the company official, the automotive tire market registered last year a total number of 2.5 million units, and the overall decline of the tire market in 2009 is tempered by the advance of winter tire sales.

Laboratoires Urgo estimates 10 pc sales increase in 2009

The first aid bandage producer Laboratoires Urgo estimates sales worth RON 19.25 M in the Romanian market, for this year, which stands for an advance by 10 per cent compared to 2008, based on the company data.

Laboratoires Urgo sales amounted last year to RON 17.5 M, by 16 per cent more than the level reported for the previous year, which was RON 15 M.

In volume terms, the company sold last year, towards pharmacies, 2.2 million units of first aid products. Over the first three months, the company registered sales amounting to EUR 1 M, which is similar to the level registered during the same time period of last year.
