Mitrea’s trial postponed for a month
The trial of Miron Mitrea, charged of undeserved benefits of his mother’s residence in the Voluntari locality, Ilfov County was postponed on Thursday for May 19 due to procedural errors in the citation of Nicolae Popescu, former Head Architect of the Voluntari Mayoralty.
Senator Miron Mitrea was sued by Anti-Corruption prosecutors on March 5.
Beside Miron Mitrea, the prosecutors also sued the former Deputy Head Inspector of the State Inspectorate in Constructions (ISC), Irina Paula Jianu and the former Head Architect of the Voluntari Mayoralty, Nicolae Popescu.
Former Minister of Public Works, Transportation and Residence during 2000–2004, presently Senator, Miron Mitrea is charged with bribe taking, instigation to forgery of official documents and use of forgery.
Geoana responds to Basescu
The war of statements between Traian Basescu and PSD leader Mircea Geoana continues. After the president’s statement that Geoana cannot go home to his mother-in-law’s if he is unable to tell her he had said something bad about the president of the country, the Social-Democrat has replied that he was inviting Basescu to his mother-in-law’s house because she could bake extraordinary Macedonian pies. ‘Like that, he will have a chance to meet my mother-in-law and realize that things are in a certain way in a serious family and that things may no be that smooth in another family,’ said the PSD leader, quoted by Mediafax, a hit at the family of the president and the scandal in which it had been involved lately. Mircea Geoana’s mother-in-law Margareta Costea, in turn, told ‘Gandul‘daily that Traian Basescu would come to like her if he tasted some of her pies.
PD–L to launch candidates for EP elections on Europe Day
PD–L will launch its candidates for the EP elections on May 9 – Europe Day – during an event held at the Bucharest Palace Hall. Antonio Lopez, the General Secretary of the European People’s Party will be a special guest of the event, according to sources within the party, as quoted by Mediafax.
The first five candidates on the PD–L list are Theodor Stolojan, Monica Macovei, Cristian Preda, Traian Ungureanu and Marian Jean Marinescu.
