ANRE: Retail gas tariffs to be cut by 3 pc on May 1

The National Regulatory Authority in the Sector of Energy (ANRE) will cut the natural gas tariffs for individual users by three per cent on May 1, with the operators having agreed to postpone the recovery of debts, said ANRE President Petru Lificiu, Realitatea-net informs. ‘The decision was made with account given to the evolution of the international gas price, but the main reason was the difficult situation of Romanian consumers in this year of crisis. The operators have agreed to postpone the recovery of some of the bigger debts. It was a kind of solidarity with the public’, said Petru Lificiu. PSD considers that the decrease of no more than three per cent in the price of natural gas is improper, considering the decline of approximately 60 per cent in international prices, and demands the hearing of the ANRE manager by the Industries Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Mediafax informs. “We decided to invite the ANRE manager to attend a meeting of the Industries Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. We consider that the decrease of merely per cent in the price of natural gas starting on May 1 is too irrelevant compared to the dramatic decline in the international prices of gas,” PSD leader Mircea Geoana declared yesterday after the BPN meeting.
