World Bank against Hidroelectrica’s division

Hidroelectrica should use its profit for investments, World Bank representatives told ‘Adevarul.’ The bank’s officials say the profit transfer to thermo-electric power stations and mining companies will perturb the entire sector. The motivation is related to the fact that the Ministry of Economy envisages the energy production restructuring by the setting up two new companies grouping both thermo-electric power stations and hydro-electric power stations – meaning the division of the actual state owned companies. They also stress the setting up of new companies should be done by the market, and not through administrative measures. The new energy strategy is to be presented today to the Supreme Defence Council of the country and is expected to be followed by a public debate.
