Administration and Interior Minister Dan Nica yesterday announced a decision had been made for the introduction of a local police force in every localities equipped with Community Police, meaning that two structures of the Romanian Police will be re-organized: the national and the local one. The Vice-Premier noted that the competences belonging to the local communities including those regarding traffic had been given to the local police force.
‘We will have a local police that has been given all the necessary competences to help it be closer to the public and a national police that will deal with public order and safety, investigate fraud and crime; the local police will work together with the Gendarmerie under the guidance of the national police’, Minister Nica explained, according to Mediafax. On the other hand, Nica said four of the areas that were going to be decentralized had been completed and two – labour and education – were still to be finalised. Also in respect o decentralization, Dan Nica noted that hospitals would be managed by the local authorities: town hospitals will report to their municipality and county hospitals will report to the county councils. The minister added that all decentralization measures would include ‘the necessary and complete financial appropriations’.
