INS: Cars registered in Romania dropped by over 11 pc

In the automotive market, the number of new vehicles registered in Romania in Q1 of 2009 dropped by 11.8 per cent compared to the similar time period of last year, based on a survey by INS.

A more important drop took place in case of new vehicle registrations for transport of goods (minus 41.6 per cent), down to 13,743 units.

Regarding the registrations of new road vehicles for passenger transport, the most significant drop took place in case of coaches, buses and mini – vans. The decrease was by 77 per cent compared to Q1 of 2008, from 2,586 to 594 operations. Also, the number of new registrations of vehicles dropped by 9.3 per cent, whereas in case of motorcycles, the drop was by 49.6 per cent, compared to Q1 of 2008, down to 1,638 registrations. INS statistics announced yesterday that industrial production prices, as a whole, in the domestic and in foreign markets, decreased in March 2009 by 0.6 per cent compared to the previous month. In tourism, the occupancy rate of the holiday locations dropped by 15.9 per cent (arrivals) and by 20.6 per cent (for overnight stays), in the first quarter of 2009, as against the same time period of the previous year.
