73 of the 431 hospital managers have had their management contracts terminated after an evaluation made by the current leadership of the Health Ministry. Some of them are well-known managers of Bucharest hospitals, ‘Cotidianul’ daily reported yesterday.
The results of the evaluation of the work of hospital managers in 2008 were posted to the Ministry’s website on Monday with over two week’s delay. The evaluation was performed based on an order issued by ex-Health Minister Eugen Nicolaescu (PNL) and re-checked by order of current Minister Ion Bazac. Some of the dismissed managers have denounced the decision calling it ‘political game’.
Eight large hospital managers have been dismissed in Bucharest, such as Floreasca Emergency Hospital or ‘Sf. Pantelimon’ Hospital. Prof. Dr. Coriolan Ulmeanu, who had been the head of the ‘Grigore Alexandrescu’ Children’s Hospital for many years, is one of them. The managers of four Bucharest institutes reporting directly to the Health Ministry have been also dismissed. One of them is Robert Agafitei who, prior to running the ‘N. Paulescu’ National Diabetes Institute had been ex-Minister Nicolaescu’s legal adviser.
