PNL calls on Traian Basescu to resign

‘PNL asks Traian Basescu to resign over his assuming responsibility for promulgating the teachers’ salary increase law, Liberal Deputy Horea Uioreanu announced yesterday, while in Cluj. Uioreanu told a press conference it is not enough for the head of state to take upon himself that the laws on raising teachers’ salaries and the pensions are not applied, but he must step down or dismiss the government who, ‘under his aegis, lied in the electoral campaign’.

On Tuesday night, Basescu accused former Premier Tariceanu of having lied when he gave him last year data which showed that the state budget could not sustain the 50 per cent rise of the teachers’ salaries. According to the Head of State, the budgetary execution for Education was 4.55 per cent at the end of 2008. In retort, the former Liberal finance minister Varujan Vosganian said: “Traian Basescu makes now the second error. He believes that through sustained deception he can convince the population. It is a risky game which shows that the role of President Basescu is drawing to an end. (…) PNL recalls that not Calin Popescu Tariceanu, but Traian Basescu was that who ignored the long range of economic considerations, requesting in October the 50 per cent rise of the salaries of the state employees.”
