Weather: Highs of 30C and hail

The National Administration of Meteorology (ANM) announces a mixed bag of weather phenomena for next week.

Temperatures will reach summer peaks, yet a cold front will spoil the meteorological ‘peace’, with showers, thunderstorms and hail forecast across most of the country, according to ‘Evenimentul Zilei’. The wind will turn gusty in the upcoming days, when hail too is likely. Showers and thunderstorms are in the pipeline, in the south and south-east of Romania mainly, where thunderstorms and hail are expected. Rainwater will reach and even exceed 15-20 litres per square metre. Today’s high will revolve between 18 and 28C. Tomorrow’s temperature will drop, with the high not to exceed 25C, and the low between 2 and 7C. Rain and wind will dominate the picture, mainly in the south-west and in the mountains. Meteorologists say such fluctuations are normal for the early summer period. ‘Heat accompanied by showers and thunderstorms are a common occurrence in the hot season, caused by vertical clouds up to 13-14 kilometres high. The weather will get colder due to a cold from advancing from the north-east,’ the meteorologist on duty explained. Weather will however grow warmer over the weekend, when temperatures as high as 28C, and even 30C, are likely,’ the meteorologist also said.
