Romania’s best karate fighter Stefania Sandu won the bronze medal at the 55 kg category of the European Karate Championship (EKF) in Zagreb, during May 8–10.
Stefania Sandu, a “Sportul Studentesc” member is a multiple national and European champion.
The federation coach Adrian Ghinea said “the result is the greatest achieved during the last three years. Romania reached the same performance at the European Karate Championship in Sofia, in 2001, at the World Karate Championship in 2002, by the same sportswoman and in 2006 at the Championship in Tamper, by karate fighter Claudia Nitu.
The 44th edition of the European Championship took place under the patronage of the World Karate Federation, the only institution of this genre acknowledged by the organizers of the Olympic Games.
“In October, at Copenhagen, karate will be acknowledged as an Olympic sport, giving Romania another chance for a medal,” Adrian Popescu – Sacele, President of the Romanian Modern Karate Federation declared.
