Penescu ‘lot’ stays in custody: Court of Appeal admits Prosecutor’s appeal

The Arges Court of Appeal has admitted the Prosecution’s appeal against the release of Cornel Penescu, meaning that all defendants in the case will remain in the Police custody, according to Antena 3.

The release order issued by the Arges Tribunal on Monday also applied to the former President of the Central Referees Commission, Gheorghe Constantin, to Vice-President Marcel Lica, to ex-OPC Arges Director Cristian Libertatu and to Liviu Facaleata, Penescu’s company manager.

Also yesterday, Arges Court overruled the request of prolongation of referee Aurelian Bogaciu’s preventive arrest. Bogaciu is a defendant in the football corruption file. The decision may be attacked by appeal, by the prosecutors of the Bucharest Appeal Court. Aurelian Bogaciu’s defending lawyer demanded the postponement of the meeting a day ago, in order to study the case, as another trial was held on Monday, when the Appeal Court of Pitesti has overruled his customer’s release on probation.
