Central Bank Governor, Professor Mugur Isarescu was awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa distinction by the ‘Alexandru Ioan Cuza’ University of Iasi, yesterday, according to Agerpres. The ceremony took place in the ‘Mihai Eminescu’ Aula Magna of the University and the award was conferred on him at the proposal of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. Mugur Isarescu has been the Governor of the Central Bank of Romania since September 1990.
On December 16, 1999, he became the prime-minister of Romania. His Cabinet prepared the EU accession economic strategy. Isarescu is also the Chairman of the Economics, Sociology and Legal Sciences department of the Romanian Academy. Mugur Isarescu has also been awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa distinction by the University of Craiova (October 2003), the University of Pitesti (December 2006), the ‘George Bacovia’ University of Bacau (August 2007) and by the ‘Babes-Bolyai’ University of Cluj-Napoca (February 2009).
