Police officer involved in Becali case, prosecuted

The police officer present in the bar in Pipera, where Gigi Becali supposedly retained the three thieves of his car, was prosecuted for complicity to deprivation of liberty, and is prohibited to leave Bucharest and Ilfov County.

The information was revealed by Becali at the Bucharest Court, while discussing the appeal initiated by prosecutors against the Decision of the District I Court to allow the sponsor of Steaua to leave Bucharest during the electoral campaign.

“Two days ago, the police officer who conducted the interrogation of the thieves went to the prosecutor to make statements as a witness, but he was charged with complicity to deprivation of freedom and was prohibited to leave Bucharest and Ilfov County,” Becali said. He also demanded the Court to overrule the appeal of the prosecution and to allow him to travel countrywide during the electoral campaign. “A journalist asked me on the hall of the Court whether I was happy. I am not happy. It is highly disagreeable for me, a family man at the age of 50, to come to ask permission of the Court if I wanted to leave Bucharest and the Ilfov County. If I were you, I would completely stop the supervision just to confront the prosecutor in charge of the case. The prosecutors do not want justice, they merely want to harm me,” Becali told the Court.

The judges decided to maintain the previous ruling to allow Becali to leave Bucharest during the campaign for EP elections.

According to the decision of the District I Court, Becali may leave Bucharest since the decision was announced and up to June 6, yet he must follow all the rules of the supervision.

The lawyers of the businessman requested that the prohibition would be stopped because Becali must attend the electoral campaign for the European Elections in person, and if he were unable to leave Bucharest and Ilfov County, it would be a disadvantage for their customer. They also mentioned that the electoral campaign has started and that the businessman, who was running for a mandate in the European Parliament at the elections of June 7, should be free to promote the image of the party he represents, respectively the Greater Romania Party, just like any other candidate.
