Vanghelie: There are four or five candidates for the PSD leadership

The President of PSD Bucharest, Marian Vanghelie, declared on Saturday that the Foreign Affairs Minister Cristian Diaconescu is one of the four or five candidates to the party leadership after the Presidential elections.

The statement took place, according to Realitatea TV, under the circumstances of the discussion about the Social-Democrats that might be interested in overtaking the party leadership, should Mircea Geoana become the new Head of the State or lose the elections.

“Cristian Diaconescu is one of our potential candidates,” Vanghelie announced. Questioned whether the relations of the Foreign Affairs Minister and Mircea Geoana are quite cold, the leader of PSD Bucharest avoided giving a clear answer: “Everybody argues sometimes, I also had arguments with Mircea Geoana, but we have a common interest. Once we win the Presidency, we are all winners,” the Social-Democrat commented.

Vanghelie declared on Friday, in an interview for ‘Gandul’ that he will not run for the leadership of the party, were Mircea Geoana to win the Presidential elections, but he will remain in a position of strong influence upon the forthcoming leader of the party. He expressed his opinion that PSD includes several potential leaders, and mentioned Adrian Nastase, Dan Nica, Ilie Sarbu, Cristian Diaconescu and Adrian Severin.
