Canadian Parliament supports visa lifting for Romanians

Foreign Ministry Secretary of State Bogdan Aurescu yesterday met with the Speaker of the Canadian Senate, Noel Kinsella, and talked about the importance Romania granted to the lifting of visas for Romanian citizens traveling to Canada. The Canadian Senate Speaker assured his interlocutor of the entire support the Parliament in Ottawa was ready to give Romania to meet the objective as soon as possible. ‘The cancellation of the visa requirement for Romanian nationals will make a notable contribution to smoothening trade as well as personal and cultural ties of the citizens of our nations’ said Aurescu, according to a MAE press release.

About two weeks ago, the Foreign Ministry announced progress on three fundamental indicators concerning the abrogation of Canadian visas: visa refusal rate, maximum overstay rate and number of asylum applications, which had all dropped. Recently, the EU-Canada Council had decided the cancellation of the visa requirement concerning all the EU member states as soon as possible.
