Alexandra Dulgheru won the WTA tournament in Warsaw

Young Romanian tennis player Alexandra Dulgheru (aged 20) confirmed its exceptional performance at the Warsaw International Women Tennis Tournament, an event that belongs to the WTA circuit, with prizes worth EUR 600,000, winning the Cup in a 7-6 (7/3), 3-6, 6-0 victory on Saturday against no. 6 favourite, Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko.

After winning the first set at tie-break (7/3) and losing the second 3-6, the Romanian incredibly regained momentum in the decisive set and simply shattered her Ukrainian rival, with a 6-0 that leaves no place for comment! The match, which lasted for two hours, was interrupted twice by rain.

This is Dulgheru’s biggest achievement, a player who is no. 201 in the world classification, her only past success being to win the USD 10,000 Bucharest 2005 ITF tournament.

Following this first big performance in her career, Alexandra Dulgheru will receive a check worth USD 98,500 and 470 points on the WTA standings that will send her up among the world’s first 100 tennis women.
