President Traian Basescu met yesterday a delegation consisting of representatives of the Romanian communities from Spain. The themes which were approached refer to the unemployment rate among the Romanians from Spain and the way in which they were affected by the financial crisis.
President stressed that he is particularly interested in the problems of the Romanians from Spain and the impact on the Romanians generated by the economic crisis.
“The unemployment figures that I have are rather high, how consistent or attractive is the social protection especially in the case of those who have not contributed to social assistance funds,” the President told the delegates at the beginning of the meeting. “I am not at all afraid by a possible return home of the Romanians. There are jobs for them in Romania,” Traian Basescu added.
Around 1,000,000 Romanians work in Spain, even if only 700,000 of them are in the records of the city halls.
