The Romanian tennis player Victor Hanescu, presently world number 30, qualified on Monday for Round 2 of the Grand Slam Tournament of Roland Garros, defeating the Belgian player Steve Darcis in three symmetric sets of 7–6, 7–6, 7–6, after two hours and 57 minutes.
In Round 2, Hanescu will confront the Russian sportsman Mikhail Youzhny, who defeated the player Gilles Muller from Luxembourg by 7–6, 6–1, 6–4) and who has already achieved a five-set victory against Hanescu before, in the Romania vs. Russia competition for the Davis Cup in Sibiu, last March.
