Minimum guaranteed income – to increase by 15 pc

The minimum guaranteed income will be raised by 15 pc as of July, under an emergency ordinance passed by the Government yesterday. The increase is included in the accord with the World Bank, Mediafax reports. According to studies made by WB, the level of the minimum guaranteed income currently stands at 18 pc of the minimum salary for 2009, compared to 29 pc in 2004, and provides for less than 35 pc of the sum needed for basic necessities. The monthly level of the minimum guaranteed income will thus reach RON 125 for a single person, RON 225 for families of two, RON 313 for families of three, RON 390 for those made of four members, RON 462 for five members and an extra RON 31 for each additional family member. The funds needed to cover the increase in budget expenses, i.e. RON 250 M, might be covered from sponsorships granted by the local providers of natural gas.
