Young men shot in the street at Timisoara

Gun shots in the middle of the street, on Wednesday night at Timisoara. Two youths – a man and his girl friend – arrived at the hospital after they were shot by a rival of the man with a rubber balls pistol. The scandal seems to have started from an older row. The 22 year-old man, together with his girl friend arrived at the hospital with several injuries. The young man was shot in the throat, the chest, the back, hands and legs, and the girl in the shoulder. Immediately after the shooting, the gunman disappeared. A year ago, Timisoara police officers had already interfered in a scandal in which the main actors were the same two young persons.

Raids at the houses of some underworld members

Important effectives of the General Information and Internal Protection Division, SPIR and Bucharest Police, accompanied by prosecutors proceeded on Thursday morning to as many as 22 simultaneous searches at the houses of several members of some underworld clans from Bucharest, Calarasi and Ilfov. Targeted were several persons suspect of robbery, blackmail and sequestration. Apparently, among the victims there are also several advisers from Calarasi. Commissioner Christian Ciocan, spokesman of Bucharest Police, declared for Antena 3 that besides threats and robberies, the offenders obliged workers to work for them without paying them. Moreover, the workers were aggressed physically if they tried to resist.

Minor accidents settled amicably

As of July 1, the minor road accidents, involving only material damages, can be settled amicably, between the drivers of the involved vehicles, without the documents issued so far by the police. In the case of the amicable understanding, the insurance companies analyze the circumstances in which the accident takes place and establish who is guilty. The persons who will sign such a form will not pay fines and will not be taken away points, they will only pay the next year a bigger insurance police. If one of the drivers refuses to sign this amicable understanding form, the drivers involved in the accident are obliged to go to the police. The utilization of the form is not compulsory, it is only an alternative to the current procedure.

Berceanu: TAROM needs highly efficient management

Transportation Minister Radu Berceanu declared yesterday in Constanta that he would never appoint a pilot as manager of TAROM because this company needs a highly efficient management, which cannot be achieved by pilots. It is more of a marketing issue, and depends less on the pilots’ skills,” Berceanu explained his reasons for overruling PSD’s proposal, Adrian Iovan, as quoted by Mediafax. He said he knows better than Marian Vangelie, PSD Bucharest leader, who nominated Iovan for the office. The Transportation Minister claimed that he received several proposals for the TAROM management, yet he overruled them all. He declared that if nominations will include a person who is “more competent” than the current manager, he will appoint him / her in this position at once.

Udrea: Hundreds of millions of people will watch Romania’s slogan at Roland Garros final

The Turism Ministry has begun an international campaign aimed at promoting Romania as a tourist destination, starting from associating the country’s name, via the Eurosport channel, with the Roland Garros tennis tournament, Mediafax reports. During each break, all through the tournament, the announcement appears on the screen ‘Roland Garros is offered you by Romania. Romania – Land of Choice’. According to Minister Elena Udrea, the add is aired free of charge, and will be broadcast throughout the tournament, including the grand finals. Udrea, along with former sports stars, Ilie Nastase, Nadia Comaneci and Gheorghe Hagi will be in Paris June 5 to take part in a series of events on the sidelines of the Roland Garros tournament.

Notaries: Real estate transactions down by 36.3 pc in Romania

In the first four months of the year, over 105,793 real estate transactions were registered in Romania, representing a decline of 36.3 per cent compared to the similar period of the previous year, Nicolae Liviu Popa, General Manager of the National Union of Notaries in Romania (UNNRP) declared, HotNews informs. The notaries’ figures show that 27,472 real estate transactions were registered in Romania, in April, representing a 35.8 pc decline to the similar period of 2008. For this year, notaries expect a decrease by 30 – 50 per cent in the number of real estate transactions registered in Romania. According to UNNPR data, 27,472 real estate transactions were registered this April, compared to 42,821 ones in the similar period of 2008. Moreover, in the first four months of the year, 105,793 real estate transactions were registered in Romania, compared to 166,213 real estate transactions in the similar period of 2008.
