The construction market could drop 15-20 per cent in 2009, on the background of the economic crisis and of the lack of funds, being close to the level of 2007, Laurentiu Plosceanu, president of the Romanian Association of Construction Entrepreneurs (ARACO), declared to Mediafax agency. ARACO estimated in March a compression of the market by 10 per cent this year, from EUR 14.3 bln in 2008. According to the data of the employers’ association, the construction market increased 26 per cent last year vs. 2007, six percentage points less than the rate registered in 2006. Prosceanu stated that many of the measures from the anti-crisis plan are not found in the real economy. He estimated that although the programmes regarding the thermal rehabilitation of the blocks and the “First House” issue a positive signal for the construction market, the latter will not rise to the past year level.
