CSA: Insurance companies to register losses in 2009

The results reached by insurance companies from subscription activities or technical accounts will be negative in 2009, as well, yet the losses will be reduced, compared to previous years, as the top players of the market will be focused on gaining profit instead of increasing their market share, the President of the Insurance Supervision Committee (CSA), Angela Toncescu declared. “The insurance companies stopped being targeted on market shares, and focused on gaining profit by subscription activities,” the President of CSA declared at the inauguration of the Insurance Management Institute.

Toncescu also said that CSA would officially reveal the data referring to the technical and financial results of the insurance industry in 2008 today. Unofficial figures reported by various representatives of insurance companies show losses of over EUR 100 million, registered last year.

The companies Allianz Tiriac, Omniasig and Asirom are presently on the top three positions of the general and life insurance companies’ standings, at the end of Q1. The situation is the same since December 2008, according to the data owned by CSA.

Therefore, Allianz Tiriac subscribed bonuses of RON 349.31 million, Omniasig subscribed 331.6 million and Asirom subscribed 205.4 million. The following positions were reached by Astra, with 199.1 million and BCR Insurances, with RON 162.94 million.
