Claude Lelouch: Filmmaking is the air I breathe

The French director Claude Lelouch, winner of a Palme d’Or Award and two Oscars, currently working at the MediaPro Studios at his new production, “Ces amours la,” had declared in an interview for Mediafax that filmmaking was the air he breathed.

Lelouch also added that his future film will include excerpts of all the 42 films he had made throughout the time, and will be homage paid to the film history. He also mentioned that each of his films was made like it was the first and last film of his career.

“I started working at this film over 40 years ago. I am making films for 50 years. 40 years ago, I had the first ideas related to this project. Since that moment, I had worked on this story, consciously or not, and I hoped to make this film one day. I yearned so intensely to make this film that, for 40 years, during the shooting of my previous films – I had the chance to make 42 of them – I had a day or two of work, especially for this project. The story of this film starts in 1900 and ends in the present. I have been shooting parts that might be included in this film during the sixties, eighties, nineties and this decade. And now, the miracle is completed, and now, I am making this movie. So, this was another script that evolved throughout the time. This is a film that will include all the things I love and all the things I hate.

The film tells five love stories in the life of a woman. It starts in 1913 and ends in the present. The most important period of the film is represented by 1940 – 1960. There is a prologue with a story occurring from 1900 and until WWI, and also an epilogue that occurs these days. The characters of the prologue are the protagonist’s parents and the epilogue features the children. This is a connection that stirs the interest of the audience: the one of parents and children.

Actress Audrey Dana will perform the lead role of this film – the life of a woman named Ilva who remembers, in flashbacks, her relationships with the men she truly loved: two French men, two Americans and a German one. French singer Raphael, who thus makes his debut appearance in cinema, will play the role of one of the woman’s former lovers. Dominique Pinon, Anouk Aimee, Judith Magre, Christine Citti, Jacky Ido and Salome Lelouch are some of the actors included in the cast, which features both representative contemporary artists as well as stars who have passed away.

A living legend of the French and international film industry, Cxlaude Lelouch won one Palme d’Or Award and two Oscars for the film “Un homme and une femme,” starring Anouk Aimee and Jean-Louis Trintignant.

Throughout his impressive career, the famous director had worked with Yves Montand, Lino Ventura, Annie Girardot, Jean – Paul Belmondo, Fanny Ardant, Jeremy Irons, Claudia Cardinale, Anne Parillaud and many other great names of the international film industry.
