Handball: Romania to play against Turkey in EC 2010 preliminaries

Romania’s handball team will play against Turkey on Wednesday in Resita (7 PM), in its last but one game of EC 2010 preliminary Group 1.

Romania has previously defeated Turkey, score 35-29, and should not be nervous playing against a team that has no points in the group standings.

Following the loss registered in their game against Montenegro on Saturday (score 27-28), Aihan Omer’s players have only theoretical chances to qualify for the EC 2010 final tournament in Austria.

Our chances will depend on the result of the Montenegro vs. Poland game scheduled on June 17. The home team’s win or a tie would automatically mean Romania would qualify for EC 2010 alongside Sweden. If Poland wins then Romania will rank second in the group, provided we defeat Poland on June 20.

Sweden tops the group standings with 12 points, followed by Montenegro with 8, Poland with 7, Romania with 5 and Turkey with 0.
