The ‘Woodchopper’ by Camille Pissarro is estimated to be worth over EUR 4 M at the Artmark House summer auction on June 25, being the most expensive painting ever auctioned in Romania, according to Artmark House officials. Artmark say the painting by the 19th century Impressionist painting Camille Pissarro had been kept with a bank in Bucharest until Wednesday, from where it was taken to the auction house by a special vehicle. The Artmark summer auction for the first time includes a section of European art consisting of 15 paintings and sculptures by masters such as Emile-Antonie Bourdelle, Eugene Delacroix or Salvador Dalli. A total of 136 works of painting, sculpture, photography and ceramics will be for sale at the auction held on June 25, all belonging to the Doctor Dona historic collection that has been recently returned to the rightful heirs by the Romanian National Art Museum. Over 40 of the one hundreds works offered up for bid have been sold, the total amount raised being approximately EUR 182,000.
