The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church has elected yesterday Corneliu Barladeanul as Bishop of Husi, and Vincentiu Ploiesteanul as Bishop of Slobozia and Calarasi, Agerpres informs.

Corneliu obtained 43 votes from the 46 members of the Synod present, while Vincentiu obtained 39 votes.

Corneliu Barladeanul graduated from the Neamt Monastery’s Theological Seminary in 1987. From 1988 to 1992 he studied within Bucharest’s Theological University Institute from which he graduated in 1992. In 1997 he became a member of the Husi Bishopric where he worked first as a seminary teacher and cultural advisor. In 1998 he was appointed as administrative vicar of the Bishopric. The following year, on June 26 1999, the Holy Synod awarded him the rank of archimandrite. On October 27 1999 he was elected as Vicar-Bishop within the Husi Bishopric, with the title ‘Barladeanul.’ Vincentiu Ploiesteanul graduated from Sibiu’s Theological University Institute in 1978. He entered the monastic life at the Lainici Monastery in 1983, the monastery being part of the Craiova Archbishopric. In 1990 he was appointed head of the Romanian Establishments in Jerusalem and on the Jordan River, and representative of the Romanian Patriarchy at the Patriarchy of Jerusalem. In 1994 the Holy Synod elected him as Patriarchal Vicar-Bishop.

Another subject on the Holy Synod’s agenda yesterday was the case of Teodosie the Archbishop of Tomis, accused of receiving money and gifts from two undercover journalists in return for helping one of them become a priest. Likewise, the two were also charged of doing business with the Holy Girdle brought from Greece, businesses from which he allegedly won the sum of EUR 300,000.
