Diaconu loses WBC light heavyweight title to Jean Pascal

Romanian boxer Adrian Diaconu has failed to keep his WBC light heavyweight title after he was defeated by Canada’s Jean Pascal in a bout that took place in Montreal’s Centre Bell.

Diaconu lost the 12-round bout against Canada’s Jean Pascal (22 wins, 15 through KO, and one defeat), a 26 year-old boxer that held the WBO Intercontinental title. The three referees’ decision was unanimous in favor of Pascal: 115-112, 116-112 and 116-111.Adrian Diaconu was accompanied by Lucian Bute, another Romanian boxer, during the presentation that preceded the game. Bute received standing ovations from the Canadian fans. The Romanian boxer stated that he was unable to keep his WBC light heavyweight title because he had waited for this bout for too long, the Canadian press informs. According to the aforementioned source, the Romanian boxer took part in only one bout in the 14 months that preceded his bout against Pascal. That single bout was the April 4 one against David Whittom. ‘I feel regret for one thing only. I have waited for far too long for this bout. Three bouts in the last three years are not enough. I have worked a lot during the training sessions but without bouts it doesn’t work. Normally I should have two or three bouts a year. This is my only excuse,’ Diaconu said.
