Liviu Ciulei rediscovered in album issued by Igloo

The Igloo Media album “Liviu Ciulei: In Thoughts and Images” was launched on Monday evening at the Carturesti Tea House. The volume presents over 30 years of the artist’s career in the Romanian film and theatre: his activity as scenery painter, actor, theatre and film director. The over 300 pages of coloured images include texts and captions signed by the great Romanian artist and his lifetime collaborator Mihai Lupu. The images show the evolution of universal scenery and theatre overall in the second half of the 20th century,” Liviu Ciulei declared. The album is all the more important as most of his performances are not preserved in any private theatre or film archive, as photographs and sketches were kept by the artist exclusively and are the only evidence of creation acts considered as landmarks by the specialists of the respective fields.
