Critic and literary theoretician Matei Calinescu passed away on Wednesday in Bloomington, Indiana (USA), representatives of the Polirom Publishing House told Mediafax. “He was a great author, an extraordinarily sensitive and intelligent person, a personality of a rare warmth and generosity,” critic Carmen Musat, editor-in-chief of the magazine Observatorul Cultural said. Moreover, the specialized publication presented a portrait of Matei Calinescu a few days ago, at the critic’s 75th anniversary.
“He was a genuinely gifted writer with a difficult destiny,” Carmen Musat also remembered. The burial is scheduled on Monday, at the All Saints Chapel in Bloomington, at the local hour 11.00.
