CSAT to discuss 2010 abroad missions

The Supreme Defence Council will convene today at Cotroceni Palace to discuss what Army forces and means can be deployed to missions abroad in 2010, according to a press release from the presidential administration. The CSAT will also discuss Romania’s participation to the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps, the government’s decision regarding army acquisition plans, computer crime and the necessity to set up an anti-drug fight coordination centre in the Black Sea area, according to the same source.

The most recent session of the CSAT was held on May 21, when the council heard a report from General Chief of Staff Gheorghe Marin in relation to the Romanian Army’s equipment purchase plans. The subject was also discussed in the CSAT’s April 24 session. A final decision on the army’s equipment purchase plan will be discussed by the government before being discussed in the CSAT, the council ruled. In April the CSAT passed the Army Equipment Purchase Strategy, which sets out the average and long term priorities of the army’s equipment acquisitions for several years.
