Two more cases of new flu confirmed

Two more cases of A H1N1 infection were confirmed in Iasi yesterday, the Health Ministry said in a press release. The two patients are also members of the 22-people group consisting of 19 teenagers and three teachers who arrived from Great Britain last week to take part in a social programme in Romania. The patients were admitted at the Iasi Infectious Disease Institute and were in a good health condition, according to the same source. The ministry also said that health care authorities continue to monitor the entire group and their contacts. The two new cases bring the total number of new flu infections confirmed in Romania to 35. Also yesterday, however, Mediafax reported that four Iasi students who had come in contact with the British group were admitted at the Infectious Disease Institute, suspected of having the A H1N1 virus. The four girls were taken to the hospital with a high fever and other specific symptoms. Blood samples were sent to Bucharest for confirmation of the infection. On Tuesday, the ministry had confirmed the presence of the virus in five contacts of the British group. Four of the patients were members of the group, while the fifth was a child from the child care center where the Britons were conducting their social project.

The British Embassy to Romania said on Tuesday, quoted by Mediafax, that it had contacted the group of Britons in Iasi and their schools in Great Britain and offered its support. “The embassy has offered support both to the children already in hospital and to the other members of the group,” the embassy said.
