Traian Basescu could win another term in office if the Presidential elections are to take place this Sunday, an opinion poll conducted by the Center for Urban and Regional Sociology (CURS) shows, Agerpres reports. Romania’s current President is the first voting option for 36 per cent of the respondents, with his main counter-candidates being Social-Democrat Mircea Geoana (who would win 24 per cent of the votes) and Liberal Crin Antonescu (who would win 19 per cent of the votes). 11 per cent of the Romanians would vote for PRM President Corneliu Vadim Tudor and 5 per cent for Prince Radu.

An UDMR candidate would win only 2 per cent, according to CURS. Likewise, Nati Meir or a PNTCD candidate would win 1 per cent of the votes.

The CURS opinion poll was conducted from June 19 to June 28 on a sample of 1,120 respondents of voting age. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3 per cent at a level of trust of 95 per cent.
