Survey: Basescu, the most criticized politician

Traian Basescu was the most criticized politician, while the members of the Government had the most numerous appearances in the main news programmes during March-May, according to the survey “A man bit a piece of news III,” released yesterday by the Media Monitoring Agency.

According to the survey quoted by Agerpres, the President of Romania had 10 negative presentations, followed by Emil Boc, who was criticized six times during the monitored period.

In an analysis of the conflicts is also presented the fact that Traian Basescu was the favourite target of most of the attacks coming from the political opponents (21 appearances).

The members of the Government had the most numerous appearances – 206, followed by Traian Basescu – 136, and the members of PSD+PC alliance – 112. The differences between the private general channels and those specialized in the broadcasting of news almost disappeared in the moment when a major event appeared on the agenda, such the remanding of George Becali on April 2. Thus, in that period, the niche TV channels dedicated the most generous spaces to the presentation and analysis of Becali case.

In spite of the fact that 2009 is an electoral year, the political arena has benefited from a limited to marginal presentation in the agenda of the TV channels. The only exception was the channel Antena 3 which has dedicated the most extensive space to this segment (19.51 per cent of the total duration of the broadcast news). At the opposite pole was the public TV channel which allotted only 3.1 per cent of the total duration of the news to the presentation of the actions and events derived from the internal political arena.
