The National Statistical Institute (INS) is celebrating 150 of Romanian statistics. The message of the Central Bank of Romania (BNR) to the INS, on its anniversary, recognises the strong and enduring ties between the two institutions. Both founded in the 19th century, at the down of Romanian capitalism, the two organisations never ceased to co-operate over time, cultivating a very sound working relationship. Now, on the 150th anniversary of Romanian statistics, the new Law of Official Statistics of June 11, 2009, enshrines the co-operation between INS and BNR who co-ordinate their respective lines of action for the purpose of higher efficiency. A meaningful fact is that the President of the European central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet, commended the co-operation established by law between the Romanian Central Bank ‘as producer of official statistics’, and the other statistical authorities of the Romanian State. Founded back in 1866, the Romanian Academy has always attached the greatest importance to its co-operation with the official statistical authorities, co-operation that is currently seeking to orient scientific research and academic debate, mainly through the Economic, Legal and Sociological Sciences Department, towards re-organising the Romanian state on modern foundations, while ensuring the effective use of statistical data without which a good leadership is impossible.
