Attempted bank robbery in Brasov

Criminals are entering banks or currency exchange offices unhindered and open fire. In Brasov the authorities have failed to learn the lessons of the Gorbunov case.

On Friday a man armed with an air gun tried to rob a BRD bank located in Brasov’s Astra neighborhood. The man fired a shot then ran away without hurting anyone and without stealing any money, Mediafax informs.

Witnesses that saw the attacker running out of the bank describe him as an athletic person with a height of 1.75-1.80 meters and a weight of over 80 kilograms. One of the customers that saw the attacker stated that a purple hood covered his head and that he ran outside the bank with a security agent on his trail. At the same time, the security agent that was in the bank at the time of the attack stated that the security company came on the scene 8 minutes after he pushed the alarm button. The bank robber fled after the security agent made use of his pepper spray.

An ambulance crew had to intervene immediately after the incident because a woman that was in the bank at the time of the attack suffered a hypertensive attack.

According to chief commissioner Liviu Naghi, the spokesperson of the Brasov County Police, road blocks were set on the roads leading outside the city. Thus, over 150 police officers from the Brasov City Police and the Criminal Investigations Service were mobilized on Friday in order to search and apprehend the attacker. ‘We are facing an attempted robbery. The man fired a shot but nobody was injured. We don’t know yet why the attacker stopped his robbery; we hope to identify him on the basis of the CCTV recordings. Brasov Police units have started their searches in order to identify and apprehend the suspect,’ Naghi stated.
