Health Ministry buys 40 million anti-flu masks

The Health Ministry will receive RON 3.022 M from the Government’s reserve fund in order to buy anti-viral drugs and disposable masks for the medical staff and the public.

‘Although not all of Romania’s population will be at risk from a pandemic wave, we propose the buying of a minimum quantity of protection masks, namely 1.8 million high-protection masks for the medical staff and the public services personnel and 40 million regular masks for the general population’ the draft of the Government decision reads.

With the earmarked sum the Health Ministry also plans to buy special hand sanitizers for areas with a high density of pedestrian traffic, areas such as schools, hospitals and public institutions. The same draft shows that the WHO recommends the creation of a stock of anti-viral drugs that would cover 25 per cent of the population and the prophylactic vaccination of 35 per cent of the population.

According to the draft, quoted by ‘Cotidianul’ daily, RON 1.8 M will be earmarked for the buying of drugs, and RON 1.2 will be earmarked for the buying of personal protection equipment.
