Insignificant growth of insurance market in H1 – 5.6 pc

The volume of the insurance premiums subscribed in the first six months of this year reached RON 4.67 bln, up 5.6 per cent vs. the period January-June 2008, declared yesterday the president of the Insurance Monitoring Commission (CSA), Angela Toncescu, Mediafax informs. In the first six months of 2008, the growth of the relevant market was 22.3 per cent, to RON 4.42 bln, according to the data announced by CSA a year ago. Ardaf, Uniqa Romania (the former Unita) and Asiban concluded the year 2008 with the biggest losses from the insurance industry, having a weight of 54.2 per cent of the total, which rose to RON 849.04 M, according to the data from CSA annual report. Broken down, Ardaf finished last year with a negative result of RON 184.97 M, Uniqa Romania – RON 143.41 M, and Asiban – RON 132.11 M. Significant losses reported also the companies BT Asigurari – RON 111.46 M, Asirom Vienna Insurance Group – RON 67.66 M, and OTP Garancia – RON 35.52 M. At the opposite pole, the best performing insurers in terms of profitability (net result) were Omniasig Vienna Insurance Group – RON 141.09 M, AIG Life Romania – RON 53.36 M, and Allianz Tiriac Asigurari – RON 22.97 M. Significant profits were reported also by ING Asigurari de Viata – RON 16.96 M, BCR Asigurari de Viata – RON 8.13 M, and Garanta Asigurari – RON 7.95 M.
