Minister for SMEs wants to rescue the press

Constantin Nita, the Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises, has asked Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea to support the mass-media industry against the backdrop of the current economic and financial world crisis’s effects. He demanded the cutting of the VAT for advertisements, printing press and paper to 5 per cent for a period of one year (starting in 2010), the VAT exemption of the mass-media companies’ copyright payments, the reintroduction of the deductibility of the VAT paid by the media companies for program licenses, the introduction of the fiscal deductibility of expenditures on fuel for the vehicles that carry the technical teams needed for live reports, the offering of one-year subscriptions to the young people that turn 18 in 2010, the naming of the mass-media industry as a strategic industry for Romania and the reduction of energy costs in 2010.
