Targoviste exchange office robbed

A yet unidentified man robbed an exchange office in downtown Targoviste on Tuesday evening, running away with about RON 40,000. The robbery took place at about 7 p.m. and the assailant threatened the cashier with a gun and then took off with the money. The perpetrator’s face was partly covered by the cap he was wearing, police said. The man was described by the cashier as being in his early 30s, about 1.80 metres tall and with dark hair. After he got the money, the man locked the cashier in the office and ran away.

Police set up several road filters in the city and in surrounding areas to capture the assailant.

The exchange office where the robbery took place belongs to the Romanian Automobile Club (ACR) in Bucharest, the ACR Dambovita head, Gheorghe Mocanescu said, confirming that the robber has stolen RON 40,000. Police said that the man also stole more than EUR 2,000. An immediate identification of the assailant will be hampered by the fact the exchange office’s video surveillance system was not working at the time of the robbery. Mocanescu will be fined RON 5,000 because the system was not working and because he failed to assure appropriate security measures at the office. Mocanescu is both director of ACR Dambovita and head of the exchange office, police said.
