Decorations worth EUR 1 M in Craiova

The Craiova City Hall has recently purchased two festive lighting systems, for Christmas and Easter respectively, worth more than RON 4.4 M (EUR 1 M). According to yesterday’s issue of ‘Adevarul’ daily newspaper, Craiova residents accuse the city’s mayor, Antonie Solomon, of recklessly spending public money during this time of economic crisis. ‘People die of hunger and we pay millions of euros on lights in downtown! They’d better provide jobs for poor people, as the unemployment rate here is higher than in Moldavia,’ a pensioner said. Youth too disagree with mayor’s initiative. Solomon however says that thanks to the new lighting system, Craiova ‘may be more beautiful than Rome or Barcelona.’ When asked by a journalist about the appropriateness of such investment during this year of crisis, the mayor hit back by swearing at the inquirer, ‘Gandul’ daily wrote.
