Six rapists and blackmailers deferred to justice

Six men have been deferred to justice for raping young women and recording the moments on tape, with the recordings then being used to blackmail the victims, the Public Ministry informs.

The prosecutors from the Sibiu, Buzau and Pitesti branches of the Office for the Investigation of Organized Crimes and Terrorism (DIICOT) have worked on several cases concerning human trafficking, child pornography, rape and blackmail. Of the seven persons sent to court, six have been preventively arrested.

The deeds of which the defendants are accused are similar to human trafficking and are characterized by a maximum level of seriousness shown to them in all legislations.

The victims were filmed, blackmailed and exposed to the public, with the crimes causing them physical and mental traumas. The crimes have hurt not only the victims but also their families and communities and they have profoundly damaged society’s ethical values.
