Tcaciuc arrested in Austria

Businessman Severin Tcaciuc, from Suceava, who was sentenced in absence by Romanian justice to six years in prison, was apprehended by police in Austria and will be expelled to Romania, as he is the subject of three warrants on charges of libel, theft and assault on a police officer. Romanian Ambassador to Vienna, Silvia Davidoiu said Austrian authorities announced the Embassy, yesterday morning, that they had arrested Severin Tcaciuc in view of extradition, Mediafax reports.

According to the Romanian diplomat, as the Tcaciuc case is handled through the Interpol, all technical procedures will be conducted by the Interpol bureau in Romania.

Businessman Severin Tcaciuc left Romania on February 28, 2003, by crossing the Vama Bors customs checkpoint, approximately three hours before Suceava police sent the request to stop him at border. The scandal caused by Tcaciuc leaving the country led to the sanctioning of Suceava police chiefs.
