Romania cannot afford to train soldiers sent in Afghanistan

Due to severe shortage of funds, the Ministry of Defence demanded that the common training of Romanian and American soldiers would take place in Romania and that the instruction techniques would be applied by “simulation.” “The activities planned in common with the American partner were revised as a result of our fund limitations. The revision of the plans led to the cancellation of the Romanian soldiers’ attendance to activities that would take place outside the national territories,” MoD announced, quoted by Realitatea TV. So far, the Romanian – American collaboration was mostly based on the training of the soldiers due to be send in the theatre of the operations.

Moreover, MoD reported that the lack of funds also led to the cancellation of common training exercises that involved the Romanian and American Navy forces, also planned in 2009.
