Flashflood in Hunedoara County, 400 persons stranded

Approximately 400 persons from Fizesti village, Hunedoara County, were left stranded yesterday by the flashflood that occurred early Monday morning and that ripped apart a road and flooded several houses. According to a communiqué issued by the Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU), five houses were flooded in Galati village, five more in Fizesti village, ten wells were rendered unusable, and two hectares of arable and grazing lands, as well as six bridges, footbridges and pedestrian crossings were damaged. ‘Communal road 64, the one that connects the Galati and Fizesti villages, is yet to be opened to traffic after the water that came down from the mountain slopes tore it apart and covered a 4-kilometer portion of it with boulders and branches. 400 people live in Fizesti village,’ the ISU communiqué reads. The value of the damages has not been established yet.

The local authorities intervened on Monday in order to clear the debris strewn on a 4-kilometer section of the road leading to Fizesti locality. A commission formed by the employees of the Pui Mayoralty went on the scene in order to evaluate the damages but its members were able to reach only the first houses after the creek that was running parallel to the road towards Fizesti village simply dug into the road that connects the village to the center of the Pui commune, destroying the bridges and the footbridges.
