VfB Stuttgart vs. FC Timisoara in Champions League playoffs


The return leg of the game pitting VfB Stuttgart against FC Timisoara is scheduled today at 9.45 PM (Romanian time), with the game counting for the Champions League playoffs. In the first leg that took place a week ago the German team defeated Timisoara, score 2-0. As a consequence, the Romanian team faces almost impossible odds. Here are the other games scheduled today: Olympiakos Piraeus (Greece) vs. FC Sheriff Tiraspol (R. of Moldova) (2-0 in the first leg); Fiorentina (Italy) vs. Sporting Lisbon (Portugal) (2-2 in the first leg); Arsenal (England) vs. Celtic Glasgow (Scotland) (2-0 in the first leg); Apoel Nicosia (Cyprus) vs. FC Copenhagen (Denmark) (0-1 in the first leg).


Romanians bought 550 tickets for game against France


The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has announced that the entire 550 tickets offered to the Romanian fans for the national football team’s game against France, a game set to take place in St. Denis in the World Cup 2010 preliminaries, have been ordered and paid. The sale of tickets for the game scheduled to take place on September 5 (10 PM Romanian time) on ‘Stade de France’ in Saint-Denis ended on Tuesday, August 25, at 11.30 AM, FRF informs.

Ambassador Pacuretu’s collaborationism trial begins in 2010


The Bucharest Court of Appeal has set the court date on January 26, 2010 for the trial where the National Council for the Study of the Former Securitate Archives (CNSAS) is accusing Romanian Ambassador to Sofia, Anton Pacuretu, of collaborationism with the former political police. CNSAS has asked the Bucharest Court of Appeal to ascertain Anton Pacuretu’s position as a collaborator of the former Securitate.


Senate asks Placinta to prove compatibility


Youth and Sports Minister Sorina Placinta has been invited to send to the Legal Affairs Committee of the Senate documents demonstrating that she had fulfilled the compatibility requirements for her position as a Senator, Committee Chairman Toni Grebla (PSD) stated yesterday. National Integrity Agency (ANI) sources told Agerpres on July 23 that the integrity inspectors had taken action following press reports.

Government and IBRD cancel USD 35 M of a loan from 2006


Government and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) decided to cancel USD 35 M of a loan approved in 2006 for the transport infrastructure, amounting to USD 180 M, and to extend the drawing period for the third time, until the end of this year, Mediafax informs. In November 2006, Romania signed a loan agreement with IBRD, part of the World Bank group, amounting to USD 180 M, to be used for funding transport support sector project.


Blue Air to expand presence in Italy


Blue Air plans to expand presence in Italy, the information becoming public once the winter flight schedule of Blue Air was published. The recent data confirms what the company targeted one year before: an advance in revenues by 38 per cent for 2009. The flights to become active this autumn, operated by Blue Air, are: Bergamo (Orio al Serio) – Naples, Bergamo (Orio al Serio) – Lio (France), Catania – Bacau. The new flights become operational as of the last week of October. Apart from these three new flights, the Romanian air carrier shall raise the frequency of the already operational flights which connect Romania to the Peninsula.


Orange Romania, supplier for MAI in the next four years against RON 5 MM


Orange Romania shall supply Ministry of Administration and Internal Affairs (MAI) mobile phone services worth RON 5.02 M (VAT included), within a four – year contract, based on the data sent by the institution following a Mediafax inquiry. The bidders which submitted offers were Cosmote Romania Mobile Telecommunication, Orange Romania and Vodafone Romania. The offers were opened on July 25. “Orange Romania was selected winner. The winning offer provides for RON 87,958.07/month, without VAT, for all MAI units,” the institution informs.
