Government considered the first round of presidential elections on November 22

On Wednesday, Government had talks on the option that the first round of presidential elections would be organized on November 22 but it was established that a final decision in this respect would be adopted in the next few days, most likely during the meeting from Saturday, according to official sources cited by Mediafax.

“There were talks within the Government in relation to the organization of the presidential elections, including on the date of the first round, the option discussed being to have them on November 22. a decision is to be made in the forthcoming time period”, according to the cited sources.

PSD Senator Olguta Vasilescu said, in the beginning of the week, that PSD and PDL reached an agreement, on Monday, as to presidential elections being scheduled on November 22, the final resolution remaining to be adopted in the government meeting. PDL vice leader Gheorghe Flutur said that nothing was agreed as to the presidential election date within the coalition.

At the end of Wednesday meeting of the Executive, the government speaker, Ioana Muntean, indicated that the Cabinet was discussing on the emergency ordinance draft amending the legislation related to president election. “PM Emil Boc indicated that the new regulations would not bring amendments as to the exertion of electoral rights but several technical details addressing the organization of the voting sections and the vote casting. The final resolution is to be adopted during this Saturday Government meeting starting at 10.00”, Ioana Muntean said.

The government official also reminded that the electronic system to fight against multiple voting would not be applied, at least not for this autumn elections, indicating that the Executive believed that time was still needed for implementing such a complex system but equally assuring that all needed measures would be adopted to avoid electoral frauds.
