Geoana: Crisis can’t be solved as long as Basescu controls gov’t

The rule of President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Emil Boc must disappear by the end of 2009 and political scandals must stop, the head of the Social Democrat Party, Mircea Geoana, said yesterday during a meeting with the parliamentary groups of the Social Democrat-Conservative alliance.

Geoana accused Basescu of “orchestrating political scandals” and underlined that all Romanians have had enough of these “sterile” political battles at a time of acute social and economic crisis, Agerpres reported. “From now on, our obligation is to avoid political scandals that don’t serve any purpose, people have had it with these political scandals ignited by the head of state,” he said. Geoana said that this crisis cannot be solved as long as the government is controlled by President Basescu and “the group of small profiteers surrounding him” and supported by PDL. He called on PSD ministers not to accept any ‘derailments’ from their ruling partners.
