Romtelecom’s Ioannidis: Client battle fought down to the last eurocent

Romania’s biggest fixed telephony provider Romtelecom wants to become also the biggest internet service provider on the local market in the near future, irrespective of the necessary technological infrastructure, company CEO Yorgos Ioannidis told Money.ro in an interview.

Romania is the most competitive telecom market in Europe, says Ioannidis, because users here manage their budges down to the last eurocent. That is why the invasion of promotions flooding the market recently, including from Telecom, is not sufficient.

Romtelecom continues to be the biggest landline telephony provider in Romania, but it is changing its strategy by starting a guerrilla war within the limitations of the competition. ‘When a big army faces a guerilla war, it regularly tries to develop anti-guerrilla tactics’, Ioannidis says. Romtelecom is doing something it has never done before – door-to-door sales.
