With 30.5 per cent, Traian Basescu continues to rank tops in voter preference, according to a poll conducted by the Social Research Bureau (BCS). According to the poll, behind the incumbent head of state comes Crin Antonescu – 21 per cent; Mircea Geoana – 19.2 per cent and Sorin Oprescu – 8.2 per cent. They are followed by Cornel Vadim Tudor – 7.5 per cent of voter intentions, Radu Duda – 5.5 per cent, George Becali – 4.2 per cent, Kelemen Hunor – 4.2 per cent and Nati Meir – 0.2 per cent. A proportion of 0.4 per cent of the interviewees would vote for a different candidate. The BCS poll was taken August 20-27 on a sample of 1,096 eligible voters and has a margin of error of +/-3 per cent. The poll was commissioned by US company Marsh Copsey&Associates, which the press holds is close to the National Liberal Party (PNL) and its presidential runner, Crin Antonescu.
