Octavian Bellu – appointed director of the Olympic Academy for Academic Excellence

Octavian Bellu was appointed director of the Olympic Academy for Academic Excellence, according to a press release remitted on Tuesday to Agerpres by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR). Within one month, Octavian Bellu together with Octavian Morariu, president COSR, and with the Executive Committee of the Romanian Olympic authority, will elaborate the programme of the Romanian Olympic Academy and will restructure the Technical Olympic Commission concurrently with the Olympic training programme for 2012 and 2016.


Bellu was designated by the World Records Academy as the most successful coach in the world, with 279 medals obtained by his athletes at the Olympic Games, and the World and European Championships. Out of the 279 medals, 16 are gold ones and were obtained by the members of the team coordinated by the pair of coaches Bellu-Mariana Bitang at the Olympic Games. With Octavian Bellu at the helm of the national women gymnastics team, Romania obtained two Olympic and five world titles. Octavian Bellu resigned on July 10 from the office of secretary of state in the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
